Breast cancer. It's a disease that will affect 1 in 9 Canadian women during their lifetime, and last year 25,000 women were diagnosed here in Canada. Nearly all of us have been touched by this disease (two of my aunts conquered it) and it's top of mind every October during breast cancer awareness month.
The good news is that thanks to years of incredible fundraising for both research and recovery, more and more women are beating breast cancer. In fact, the 5-year survival rate is at its highest in Canadian history at 88%. But of course we'd all like to see that rate hit 100%, so the work continues.
This year one of my favourite local companies has joined the fight against breast cancer: LVD Fitness. LVD Fitness is a workout apparel company founded by Josh Reyes and Mallory Rowan, local university students and nationally-qualified powerlifters.
They're also some of the kindest folks you'll meet. Here's Mal and Josh:
So what's the deal with LVD? LVD is short for "LIFT, VISUALIZE, DOMINATE", which sums up not just their goals in the gym, but also their desire to create change in the world around them. So with every product sold, LVD works with WaterAid Canada to provide a month of clean water to a child or family in need.
Pretty amazing, eh?
And this October, they're upping the ante for breast cancer awareness month. Buy a pink LVD snapback hat and LVD Fitness will also donate to the fight against breast cancer!
Their pink hats are selling fast so hustle over to their website and grab one before they're gone. I want these babies to sell out because every hat sold = more money raised!
So be a total badass and lift in pink: you'll look awesome and you'll feel awesome knowing you're creating meaningful change for women facing breast cancer. Want to make a straight-up donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation? You can do that right here.
