I'm obsessed with skincare and even more obsessed with sunscreen. First and foremost because I'm a skin cancer survivor, and secondly because I've always felt prevention is more effective than correction. And quality sunscreen is key to preventing damage!
Lucky for all of us, several French derma brands are killing it with their sunscreen formulas, and as a bonus they're super easy to find at Canadian drugstores. And they go on sale often, too! Today I've got some sun care finds from French skincare powerhouse Bioderma.
I reach for Bioderma again and again because their formulas are straight-forward and effective. This brand makes no attempt to be flashy: instead they simply focus on products that do the job.
In an industry full of flash-in-the-pan products, we beauty lovers take note when we find a gem that delivers. So much so, in fact, that a bottle of Bioderma's cult favourite Sensibio H2O micellar water sells every 5 seconds.

I shared several of my Bioderma skincare faves back in the spring, and now I've got some sun care goodies from their Photoderm line that'll carry you through the rest of summer's sunny days. Let's get started!
bioderma photoderm SUNSCREENS
I tested two Bioderma's sunscreens: Photoderm SPF 40 Spray and Photoderm SPF 50+ Lait. Both protect against UVA and UVB rays, which is key (check your current sunscreen bottles). Each formula was non-greasy and easy to apply, which isn't always the case for sunscreens with physical blockers like zinc. And the formulas are so good that both versions can be used on your face and body without any worries of breakouts. Woohoo!
This was my first time trying a non-aerosol spray, and I was impressed by how well it spread and absorbed. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, this pump bottle formal is a great alternative to aerosol sprays since it doesn't contain any propellant.
I applied both 15 minutes before a 5k run in sunny, sticky, 35C weather, and I was pleasantly surprised that there was no streaky, chalky mess. You know, that feeling when it seems you're sweating your sunscreen right back out of your pores? None of that going on here. And no white residue on my black running clothes either! Top marks for these.

Next up was Bioderma's Photoderm Autobronzant sunless tanning spray. I've been using this little gem since mid-spring and I LOVE that it brings a believable colour to my otherwise stark white legs. Simply mist it over clean dry skin and allow yourself about 30 minutes to air-dry. I usually massage it into my skin then quickly wash my hands to avoid tanned palms. And for times I wanted a deeper bronze, I'd spray again daily for about 3 days in a row.
I used this several times this year for weddings and parties: spray all over once you're out of the shower and let it dry while you're doing your hair and makeup. Then you can slip on your outfit with no fear of staining! Also: this is finally a sunless tanner that doesn't smell like sunless tanner. No icky chemical smell and it didn't interfere with my perfumes.
Autobronzant will be a great for any trips down south, too: base tans are a myth so fake your base with this and enjoy your golden glow. No scary white legs for you!
