Anyone else obsessed with watches? I am. In university (waaaaay back when) I worked in the watch department at The Bay on Rideau Street, and promptly became obsessed. I worked there for less than a year and in that time I acquired 10+ watches.
I had everything from a classic Timex, to a steel DKNY, to my then-favourite: a slim-line Kenneth Cole with a teeny black leather band. One for every outfit and occasion, right?
I still love collecting watches and probably have about 8, mostly by big brands you can find just about anywhere. Think Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs.
In my current rotation:
Counterclockwise from top left:
Marc Jacobs Rose Gold "Amy" Crystal Bracelet Watch that I picked up in Las Vegas, about $275 CAD
The Fifth Watches Rose Gold & Peach Watch that I found on Instagram, about $140 CAD
Michael Kors Oversized Jet Set Tortoise & Gold Watch that I found online, about $300 CAD
Kate Spade Gramercy Grand Gold Watch that I bought at the New York flagship, about $300 CAD
Nothing wrong with designer brands, but then I found local Ottawa start-up Timber Watches.
Timber Watches was founded by two guys named Rob and Matt, and going against the grain is kinda their thing. They wanted to create a watch that was sleek, simple, affordable, and stylish, and everyone told them that was an impossible combination.
But by using eco-friendly wood and natural leathers from around the world, they dreamed up the Original Timber Watch and proved everybody wrong. In just a few months they expanded their line to include styles for both men and women, and Timber Watches can now be found in over 15 countries worldwide. My goodness.
The line currently includes 3 styles. While certain options are branded as being for men or women, I find them all clean and unisex and I think they could all suite just about anybody. Their styles are:
The Churchill Watch, $89 (dark wood, above right)
The Juliette Watch, $89 (medium wood with dark leather band, below)
The folks at Timber Watches kindly sent me a Juliette watch so I could take a closer look, and I have to say I'm in love. That's mine up there ↑. It's incredibly light and comfortable, and I love the minimalist style. It goes with everything! I wore it to Bluesfest, I wear it to work, and I'm wearing it to NYC this weekend. YAAAS.
But that's not all... I want you to win one!
